Welcome to Christopher Kohanik's Portfolio

Past

I am a Digital and Interactive Media Design (DIMD) graduate from NAIT, with a major in Print Graphic Design. I learned the fundamentals of typography, identity development, and the layout of promotional materials. I have a wide range of skills using adobe programs such as InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Flash, and experience writing valid xhtml, css, and actionscript.

Present

With my internship as a junior designer at vrse design completed, I am currently seeking a graphic design position so that I can continue to apply my creativity and appetite for design in a challenging and rewarding career.

Future

I have put the wordpress blog I have been working on for this site on hold for the time being so that I can focus on updating my portfolio with some of the peices I worked on while I was at vrse.

Contact

There is a contact section with a form that you can fill out if you have any questions about the site, my projects, myself, or just want to say hi. The alternative is to just send me an email via ckohanik at gmail.com. Here's looking forward to hearing from you.

Digital Design

Flash Website Make a Statement

GetVoting

Problem

Design a website that combines HTML and Flash that will convey a message

Conception

To encourage people to get out and vote during the provincial election on March 3, 2008.

Solution

Originally the idea was to just broadcast the idea of going out and voting to the general public, but it was realized that by choosing a demographic, getting the intended message across would be much easier. Thus, I decided that the best demographic to choose was the one that I am apart of; this being students at Nait who are ranged in age from 18 to 28. This demographic is especially important to the democratic process because of the normally low voter turnout, not only in this age range, but in students in general.

From there the decision was made to make the site politically neutral. By doing this, students would be able to trust that they were not being encouraged to vote so they could vote for a certain party, but instead that they were being encouraged to take part in the democratic process of Alberta. This was achieved by making the site "sponsored and endorsed" by NAITSA, Nait's Student Association, an politically neutral entity, whose only goal is to focus on the well being and needs of Naits students.
